Nick Hornby writes about sadness being better than... →
I’m not sure I agree but this is a pretty good quote from the article: “Some people are at their best when they’re miserable. Ryan Adams’s beautiful Heartbreaker album is, I suspect, the product of a great deal of pain, and “Oh My Sweet Carolina” is its perfect, still centre, its faint heartbeat, a song so quiet that you don’t want to breathe throughout its duration.”

this is too beautiful. the sea, raw and freshly wild harvested food sprinkled with flowers and sea salt, a father and a son… the love here is so tangible. Reminds me of some really good fathers I’ve known. Especially being around kids lets me see these relationships as they unfold.
Some kids are really lucky. Some parents really delve into being there for their kids, and that I love....

Earthlings →
is a documentary I’ve been meaning to watch, about human’s reliance and yet complete disrespect of other animals, and I may have my class watch it (maybe as a homework) but I can’t stomach it right now. It’s on the list for the week though. So… if you watch it, let me know what you think.

A guy took polaroids for a year →
And some of them are pretty sweet.
There’s something to a project you do piece by piece… and the overall effect is usually a wow. Like taking one Polaroid a day, for a whole year. What project would you do for a whole year if you could?

Photos from Nepal →
Fullbright scholarships are so cool! And these photos are amazing. The one of the mountains especially, and the one of the woman cleaning rice in her house, with the shaft of light coming through, the way she is so focused on what she’s doing, and how she’s probably lived there her entire life, and that light.. that shaft angling in… is probably it. Something indescribable...

The Blind Cafe →
This cafe is a social change for good, so it tells me. And I’ve heard so much about it.. it needs to come to San Francisco- right now it’s pretty much Denver, Boulder, Portland OR, and Seattle. and soon to come to Austin. So… San Francisco soon? Come on! Listening to music in the dark! Dining! Getting people to really pay attention to the felt sensations of their bodies. Maybe I...

I want to learn to play this on Ukelele… and so many other things… And I’m moving into a place with an acoustic guitar and a keyboard, so that’s happening! And a neighbor with a banjo and 6 kids. And a garden/backyard space to garden. Life is exciting.

– Remy, a new possible roommate who sounds AWESOME.
Anyone who loves Maine is a friend of mine. And I have to agree and love that quote up there. So much of my own childhood was spent there… summers… and a few storms on the lake I can remember.. one time even swimming during a...

A way to be inspired each day, to write to a new prompt. A girl I went to school with has been doing it, and I just found it recently. I really like the concept though and may start doing it soon. A way to unleash creativity, unconstrained. Just write.
Saturday Morning Bluegrass →
aka the current soundtrack to my life. And yes, the dog is still sleeping, the sky is still grey, and the peppermint tea is still pepperminty.
